2. Rajah Lory

Northwest New Guinea, Amberpon and the Onin Bomberai Peninsulas.
Description
A lot like the Black Lory but with more red feathering, especially on the forehead, lores, cheeks and under wing coverts. The color deepens with age. Varyingly red quills appear through the black plumage. Bases of some feathers are red on the throat and upper chest with a blue patch on the rump. Violet on the bend of the wing. Red coloring distinguishes it from the black Lory, Witch lack all red (except in some young) and from Bernstein’s Lory. Rajah’s are very secure in the wild, very few of them have been kept in aviaries and been bred.

Depending on the individual, but can be loud in bursts.

Description
Black, large and majestic. If closer, examination is almost glistening in a good light. Underside of tail red and yellow, slight bluish trace on the rump, beak, legs and peri-orbital skin (In adults) Black. Iris variable brown. Young blacks may show a little bit of red. Almost identical to the Rajah lorry, but lacking the red.

Call
These Lories can produce a high piercing call. The calls come in short intimate bursts.
Habitat
The black Lorie has a big appetite. Wild caught lories are usually shy. Black Lories breeds and settles well in aviaries.
